CALL FOR GRADUATION COMMITTEE

PURPOSE: To work in a group of 4 representing Year 7s (facilitated by Bernadette) to help plan Graduation Year book , Graduation decorations and Graduation songs for beginning and end of ceremony.

MEETINGS will be held on Tuesdays during lunch time.

APPLICATION via an expression of interest to class GRADUATION blog post by Friday 23rd October.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

100-200 word statement

Reference to organisational , interpersonal, and time management skills.

Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 26th October.

40 Hour Famine- THANK YOU

During Week 8 of Term 3 46 students participated in the World Vision 40 Hour Famine. Students chose a variety of items as their ‘Famine’ task. Some went without food, others chose to go without furniture and some even tried to experience living with the use of only one arm for the 40 hour period.

It was a good insight into what it would be like living in countries where these experiences go on for more than 40 hours. During this time, the students were sponsored by family and friends. As a collective group the studetns raised a total of $ 2521.95 which has been handed over to World Vision.

A big thank you to everyone for the part they played in making this a successful event.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE- SEPT 21ST

Today we celebrate with the UN and countries around the world an attempt for International peace. The International Day of Peace is observed each year on the 21st September and is a global call for cease fire and non-violence.

International Day of Peace

We can all play a part in this with even just a smile making a difference. Many famous people in history have been trying to promote this message As Ghandi once said:

‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’

Famous Beatle musician, John Lennon, packaged the wish for peace through the lyrics of the very famous song Imagine.

POWERPOINT FOR PEACE is a global community project that hopes to build up a global presentation to help spread the message and hope for peace through the contribution of slides from people around the world.

In today’s world, peace needs to become more than just a word.

Today our team will work together to produce pinwheels of peace to place in the school’s garden.

15 days ’til the 40 Hour Famine!
In the past year, over 100 million more people have been affected by a food crisis.
Funds raised in the 40 Hour Famine will support World Vision projects that are fighting the Global Food Crisis in Kenya and Cambodia where people are at risk of starvation.
We are going to commit to helping by becoming involved this year. Our target will not be a money amount but rather how many people can we help. Five children can be helped for a month with every $40 collected.

My first impression is that this book will be a bit like PARVANA’S JOURNEY that I read last year. I have never read a book by this author so I am interested to se what sort of writing style he uses. I also wonder how this story will start. Will they have already escaped or is it going to start with them still captured. I am not sure if I’ll enjoy this book or not, it depends on how the book is written.
