Today with our student teachers we made wooden snakes. We got 10 long peices of wood and 4 peices of short wood. Then we got bottle caps and drew circles on top of them on the edge of the plank of wood.

Next we cut the corners off and got sand paper to smooth the sides. Fourth we got glue and glued 1 of the small planks of wood onto 2 of the big ones then wrapped masking tape around it. We did it three times. Then went to 1 of our student teachers to get holes drilled into it. We then got split pins and stuck it through the wood and did it to the other ones. Seventh we start to design our snakes of how we want to paint it. After that  we start painting our snakes.

We reflectd about our camp experiences by writing poems that described our experiences by using our senses.

Camp 08

Sights of children screaming on the giant swing

Touch of shitakinusrooms on the rock climbing wall

Taste of water running down my throat as I fall into the river Murray from my raft

Smells of fire burning as we cooked the damper

Sounds of arrows trying to hit the stuffed toy bear .. no!!!!

An Adventurous Camp Experience

Sights of scared children on the Giant Swing.

Sounds of laughter and frightened screams while they soar through the air.

Touch of the tight harness that gives you a wedgie.

Tastes of disgusting flies soaring through the air and into your mouth.

Smells of chips and fish in the dining room.

Last week L.A.20 and our class spent 3 days and 2 nights at a camp called ‘El Shaddai’. We had so much fun!

Once we had settled into our dorms, our activities began! One activity was called ‘Initiatives’ which were mini games where we had to use teamwork. Another activity was playing with the ‘Earthball’ which was a huge ball. The last activity for Day 1 was Archery. Some people hit the bullseye and we had to try and shoot a toy bear! We had to be in partners and we got 3 shots each round. We had an hour of free time and then we had dinner. We had Fish ‘N’ Chips and since it was someone’s birthday, we had cake and ice cream. We then had a talent show. Each dorm had to do something. Since a person in our dorm is a really good singer, she sang and the rest of us clapped. We won! There was a mexican pillowfight dorm, a chicken dance dorm and some others. Then supper which was a hot chocolate or Milo. We then had to go to bed.

Day 2: We had breakfast which was cereal, toast and orange juice and then our activities began. We did raft making and then had to race with it in the Murray River. Most of us got wet but some people were completly dry. We then did canoeing. After a while, paddling hurt your arms. We joined all the canoe’s together by holding onto the conoe’s next to you and we had to swap canoes…ON WATER! The canoes were very stable and only wobbled a little bit. Then we had lunch. For lunch we had wraps. You could have a bacon wrap or chicken wrap. It was really yummy. Then our activities started again. Our group then did rock climbing. There were five narrow, tall walls. There were two easy walls and the rest were challenging. Only a few people made the fifth wall because it was really hard hardly anyone made the third wall. It was even harder than the fifth wall. A lot of people made the fourth wall and the majority of people made the first and second wall. Then the GIANT SWING! Everyone had to wear a harness and a person was harnessed onto the swing. Everyone else pulled a long rope and the person harnessed into the swing went higher and higher (13 metres to be exact)! When the person was as high as the wanted, the pulled a green rope which was in front of them. Then they went flying! It was so fun! We had afternoon tea, free time, dinner which was pasta then we watched Mr Marvellous the Magician! He almost sawed someone in half! We all thought “how did he do that?” but he didn’t tell us. Then we had supper and went to bed.

Day 3: The final day for our camp. We had breakfast and did activities which were Frisbee Golf, orienteering and bush cooking. Frisbee Golf is where partners throw a doughnut shaped frisbee and the other person has to catch it. Orienteering was hard but fun. In bush cooking we made damper which was yummy. We had lunch which were hamburgers and then set off back to school. By TM

Today for our inquiry what makes us Austrailan? I brought in a Bearded Dragon, named Harry. Harry is a male. Bearded dragons are native Australian reptiles which means that it is cold blooded. If you have more than one you need to get a licence. Harry mainly feeds on insects and sometimes fruit. Harry has had a friend called Sallywhich is a smaller female bearded dragon. They are called bearded dragons becuase when they get angry they neck blows up and it looks like they have a spikey beard even though it is not really spikey.

This term for Literacy Block, our class is learning poetry. Yesterday, we had to write a poem on our fortnight-long holidays. There had to be 5 verses, and in each verse two lines that rhymed. We then had to publish it on the computer. Today we learnt about limericks. Limericks are short poems that don’t make sense but have humor. First we had to write a limerick about us. If our name didn’t rhyme with anything, we wrote something like ‘There once was a girl from S.A’. We then wrote a limerick in partners, we wrote a limerick about an animal or a made-up character. I had heaps of different limericks in my head but I had to choose only one limerick. After almost everyone had written at least 1 limerick, we went outside and sat in a circle with our books. We then shared our limericks to everyone. Some limericks were really funny and everyone laughed at them. Sadly, some people didn’t write a limerick. Then it was lunchtime! I can’t wait to learn more about poems and limericks and I can’t wait to write more too!

On Friday, the 5th of September 2008 we had a Side Show Alley Expo in preparation of our side show alley day which will happen at the end of term. We were asked to design a side show game for a homework task and make a mini model of our design. All of the games were great and really fun, It was obvious that everyone had put a lot of effort and thought into their idea and we think we are going to have a lot of trouble deciding on which one is going to be our official game.We cant wait untill Side Show Alley Day! Today in class we had a Side Show Alley expo to prepare for our Side Show Alley day at the end of this term. We were asked to design a Side Show for homework and make a mini model of our design. Some of the games were ‘Hit The Target’, ‘Bowling Cans’, and ‘The Slime Chair’. Everyone put there mini model onto their table and the class walked around trying them out. It was obvious that everybody put a lot of effort into the design and they all looked great. We can’t wait until Side Show Alley day.
