The Office for Youth in partnership with The Advertiser has published a survey to capture the views of young people.
The aim of the youth survey is to gain a snap shot of how young people are faring, and provide them with an opportunity to be heard on issues that affect their lives.
The State Government, through the Office for Youth, will be using the information gained through the survey to inform future development of government policies, programs and services for young people.
The Youth Survey is opened from today, with a closing date of Tuesday 9 November 2010.

Welcome to Term 4, the beginning of a change ahead for students preparing to head off to commence their secondary education. There is great excitement as we begin Term 4 in the fantastic new 21st Century classrooms that were built as part of the BER project. The new 21st Century learning spaces create many new possibilities for learning to take an exciting new direction.
A big thank you to all students who particiapted in last term’s 40 Hour Famine. As a group we managed to collect a total of $2007.10. Thanks also go out to the many families and friends who supported the students throughout the process.

We are learning about various forms of poetry at the moment. One easy but creative type of poem is called a kenning. Espresso describes a kenning as the following:
A kenning comes from the Old English and Norse languages and is a way of naming something without using it’s name. So a Viking warrior might call his axe ” skull crusher” and we might name our football boots “net busters”.
The Espresso site also offers the following example:
My cat
Mouse catcher
Leg scratcher
Soft speaker
Sun seeker
Flea keeper
Long sleeper
Fish eater
Dog beater- Anonymous
So, time to try one of your own

During this term our Inquiry learning has been focused around the Child Protection Curriculum which has been designed to develop skills and strategies for personal safety and abuse protection. A special insert was sent home with the school newsletter this week giving more detailed information about the program.
One of the themes explored through the Inquiry was relationships, keeping safe and how to deal with pressure. The students created interesting scenarios and incorporated these in a puppet performance. Some of these were shared at the school assembly.
Exploring PRESSURE generated lots of discussion in class. We came to an understanding that while ‘pressures’ that confront us on a daily basis cannot always be eliminated we can put strategies into place to help us deal and cope with pressue. One of these is practising relaxation techniques. Learning how to use breathing and sometimes finding a quiet space and listening to realxing music can help one think clearer and work through and deal with pressures faced.
The following site, Relaxing music, allows you to create your own composition of relaxation music. It allows you to choose what sounds you would like to incorporate with the piece you create. Enjoy!

Our class participated in Classrooms Care, a donation program run by Scholastic Book Clubs. Together we helped to reach the target of 100 books before September. This program helps children in need.
Scholastic Book Clubs will donate 100 new books to one of its charity partners.
The charity partners are The Smith Family and Learning Links.
Well done LA 21 team

It has been an interesting start to the Term. Our learning continues away from the classroom four walls as we attend swimming lessons. The activities are varied and all seem to be enjoying the experience. The term ahead holds many other interesting experiences such as the celebration of Book Week and participation with the 2010 40 Hour Famine.
